Kalyanpur slum fire to be probed, committee formed

A three-member probe committee has been formed to investigate the fire that broke out at a slum in the capital's Kalyanpur area on Friday night. Fire service and civil defence assistant director Saleh Uddin confirmed the matter to the media on Saturday.

Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) police outpost in-charge Md Bacchu Mia said that till now two people-Akhtar Hossain (19) and Anwar (21) are badly burned in this incident and they were admitted to the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.

Earlier on October 30, a fire broke out at Natunbazar slum in the capital's Kalyanpur. Later, it was brought under control.

The fire occurred at 9pm, said Mahfuz Riven, duty officer of the Fire Service and Civil Defence control room.

Ten firefighting units brought the fire under control around 11pm, he said.

The cause of the fire and extent of damage are still unclear.
