The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) on Monday lowered the price of liquified petroleum gas (LPG) by Tk 5.39 per kg to Tk 102.70, which was previously Tk 108.09.

With the revision, the price for a 12kg LPG cylinder has now lowered by Tk 65 to Tk 1,232, BERC Chairman Abdul Jalil announced in a virtual press conference on Monday. The prices for other sizes of cylinders – from 5.5kg to 45kg – will go down rationally.

As per the announcement, the price of autogas (LPG used for motor vehicles) has also been lowered by Tk 3 per litre to Tk 57.41 per litre, which was previously Tk 60.41 per litre. The new prices will be effective from 6pm on Monday.

The price of LPG marketed by the state-owned LP Gas Company, which has less than 5 per cent market share, will remain unchanged as it is locally produced.

The price of LPG had gone up to the highest at Tk 1,439 (12kg) in the local market following the start of the Russia-Ukraine war in February 2022. The same year, it was the lowest at Tk1,225 in January, and it witnessed a continuous hike in price in February, March and April.

The BERC for the first time fixed the retail-level LPG prices on April 12 2022, after holding a public hearing to comply with a High Court order.
