The 21st meeting of the Bangladesh–India Joint Steering Committee (BIJSC) on the power sector was held on Thursday.

Secretary of the Power Division of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Habibur Rahman and his Indian counterpart Alok Kumar led their respective sides in the meeting held in Khulna, read a press release.

The meeting reviewed the progress of the ongoing activities related to mutual cooperation in the power sector between Bangladesh and India.

It also inspected the possibility of power generation projects in India through BIFPCL including power export from Bangladesh to India and installing solar power projects.

The delegations also discussed the signing of an agreement to import 500 megawatts of hydroelectricity from Nepal by GMR to Bangladesh through India.

Besides that, the management of the first unit and the implementation progress of the second unit of the 1320MW Maitree Super Thermal Power Project construction project were reviewed.

The meeting expressed optimism that the second unit would be synchronized by June this year.

Joint development of cross-border trade, projects and energy efficiency projects were also discussed.
