The country's first wind energy project at Khurushkul in Cox's Bazar will be experimentally connected to the national grid to provide 30-megawatt of power within the next couple of days, said Prime Minister's Energy Adviser Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury on Wednesday.
While visiting the project site he also said this alternative green energy project will be fully operational by the end of the year.
During the visit, Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury held a meeting with officials of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, the Bangladesh Power Development Board and the project implementation authorities in the conference room of the project office.
The work of the wind power project at Khurushkul in Cox's Bazar Sadar started in March last year. Private firm US-DK Green Energy (BD) Ltd is implementing the project.
Engineer Zahirul Islam Khan, the managing director of US-DK Green Energy (BD) Ltd, said 22 turbines are being installed to generate 60MW of power from wind, of which each turbine will generate 3MW of electricity.
So far 10 turbines have been installed. Two turbines will be installed as standby for backup.
He also said a proposal has been submitted to the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources to increase the production capacity of the project up to 120MW. 20 more turbines will be needed to be installed for that purpose.
