Thirty-five Chinese nationals working at Pyra thermal power station in the district have tested positive for Covid-19 ,the district civil surgeon’s office said on Tuesday.
They were among the 57 workers of the power station who tested corona positive in the last 24 hours. They remaining 22 are Bangladeshi nationals.
The power station is located in Patuakhali’s Kalapara Upazila.
Upazila Health Officer Dr. Chinmoy Hawlader said the authorities of Payra power station examined one thousand people working there, under their own management.
Those tested positive -35 Chinese and 22 Bangladeshi workers- have been kept in isolation centres arranged by the station authorities, he said.
According to the Patuakhali District Civil Surgeon's Office no Covid positive patient was identified elsewhere in Patuakhali district but Kalapara in last 24 hours.
Kalapara Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Abu Hasnat Mohammad Shahidul Haque said 400-450 Chinese people are working at Payra Thermal Power Station.
Earlier, 15 Chinese workers were infected with the virus in this power plant.
