Over 3.5 lakh people were still without power in Shariatpur district on Tuesday after cyclone Remal battered the country on Sunday.
Many electric poles and trees were uprooted; houses and crops were damaged in different parts of the district during the storm.
According to the Palli Bidyut Samity, at least 20 electric poles in Sakhipur, Bhedarganj, Goshairhat, Damudya, Jajira upazilas were destroyed as around 600-700 trees fell on the electric poles, disrupting power supply to the district.
Besides, the mobile networks were also disrupted due to the power outage.
However, the authorities concerned managed to restore power supply in some places in the morning of Sadar upazila and Jajira upazila.
Shafiqul Islam Rari, a resident of Bhedarganj upaizla said, "The power supply has remained cut off since Sunday night. Many trees fell on electric wires and no one from the Palli Bidyut Samity has yet come and removed the trees."
Abdus Sattar, a resident of Gosairhat Upazila, said they failed to charge their mobile phone sets due to power outage.
Nazmul Hasan, assistant general manager of Palli Bidyut Samity, said, "Due to disruption in the mobile network, we have not yet received full information about power supply situation. According to the information we received, more than 350,000 customers are still without power. Trees fell on electric wires and poles in 600 to 700 places. Due to the manpower crisis, removing these trees in a short time is impossible. But hopefully, the electricity lines will be fixed soon."
