Adani Power successfully commenced commercial operations of the second unit of its Jharkhand Thermal Power Plant with a capacity of 800MW, according to an exchange filing by the company.

The subsidiary of Adani Power, Adani Power Jharkhand Limited, completed the commercial operations of unit II of the 2x800 ultra-supercritical power project after conducting Reliability Run Tests, as reported by various Indian media outlets.

Adani Power Jharkhand Limited (APJL) will export the entire power generated by the plant directly to Bangladesh on a commercial basis, in accordance with the Power Purchase Agreement. The electricity will be transmitted through dedicated 400 kV transmission lines, with a net capacity of 1496MW.

APJL had previously signed a 25-year contract with the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) for this purpose.

Adani Power stated in its stock exchange filing, "With the commissioning of this power plant, Adani Group has initiated a new phase in cross-border electricity export to our neighboring country. Adani Power is proud to contribute to the economic growth and prosperity of Bangladesh, providing a reliable and competitive source of electricity to help the country achieve its long-term development goals."

Adani Power had already begun operations with the first unit of the power plant in April of this year. According to BPDB, the Adani Group has been exporting 748MW of electricity since April. With the second unit coming online, Bangladesh received an additional 119MW on Monday, reducing the electricity shortage to 629MW. The Power Grid Company of Bangladesh mentioned that the country will receive the power in full capacity once the construction of the Bogura sub-station is completed within a week.

Shameem Hassan, Director of Public Relations at BPDB, stated, "On Monday evening, Adani Group exported a total of 867MW of electricity as the Bogura substation is not yet ready."
