State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid has urged officials of the Energy and Mineral Resources Division to expedite the exploration of domestic energy resources. He emphasised the necessity of acquiring or renting additional drilling rigs if needed to hasten the exploration process.

Nasrul made these remarks during a virtual meeting with energy division officials on Thursday.

During the event, it was revealed that as of May 2024, the implementation rate of the Annual Development Program (ADP) for the Energy and Mineral Resources Division stood at 92.45 per cent, compared to the national progress rate of 57.54 per cent.

Energy and Mineral Resources Division Secretary Nurul Alam highlighted that, similar to the past two years, the energy division is on track to exceed 100 per cent ADP implementation this year.

State Minister Nasrul Hamid stressed the importance of prioritising automation activities to ensure energy security. He mentioned that pipelines are being constructed for oil transportation, with plans for additional pipelines in the future. He underscored the need for special initiatives to manage the operation and maintenance of these pipelines.

Furthermore, Nasrul pointed out that the approximately 2,200 petrol pumps across the country are not regularly inspected, leading to a lack of desired services for customers.

He advocated for measures to prevent oil wastage and ensure safe transportation by addressing issues related to the vehicles used for oil transport.

The virtual event was attended by Petrobangla Chairman Zanendra Nath Sarker and Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation Chairman Md Amin Ul Ahsan, among other notable figures.
