After completing all trials, the once abandoned well in Sylhet’s Beanibazar will add 8 million cubic feet (mmcf) of gas to the national grid daily from Monday.

However, depending on the generation capacity, the amount might increase or decrease, Sylhet Gas Field Management Director Mizanur Rahman told the Business Post after inspecting the work conducted on experimental basis on Sunday.

“We hope to extract around 10-11 mmcf of gas from this well daily," he added.

On September 10, Sylhet Gas Fields hired the Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Company Limited (BAPEX) as a contractor to start drilling well 1 in the Beanibazar field. The well has remained abandoned since 2016.

On November 10, BAPEX confirmed that there is a gas reserve in this well.
