The Consumer Association of Bangladesh has issued five demands to ensure good governance in the power and energy sector.
The demands were made at an online citizen meeting on Tuesday organized by CAB.
They demanded the repeal of the Quick Enhancement of Electricity and Energy Supply (Special Provisions) Act 2010.
However, any proposal unsolicited through the switch challenge may be considered in certain cases.
CAB also demanded that the term of any rental or quick rental power purchase agreement cannot be extended in any way.
They also demanded to reinstate BERC's authority to fix the prices of petroleum and LPG.
Also, any person who was in a utility job will be eligible for BERC membership after five years of leaving the job.
Moreover, all officials of the Ministry of Power and Energy must be removed from the utility board, they demanded.
Architect Mubasshar Hussein, Dr Badrul Imam, Prof Dr Ijaz Hossain, Engineer Salek Sufi, Prof MM Akash, Prof M Shamsul Alam, Advocate Rizwana Hasan, Prof Tanjim Uddin Khan, and Dr Tureen Afroz were present at the meeting.
Members of the civic society of the capital, including district and upazila level consumer representatives, also attended the meeting.
