The Power Development Board (PDB) has disconnected electricity connections to Chattogram Medical College and the Railway East Zone due to unpaid electricity bills totalling Tk 3.41 crore.

Chattogram Medical College owes Tk 1,29,45,000, while the Railway East Zone office owes Tk 2,12,00,000.

Rezaul Karim, Chief Engineer of the Bangladesh Power Development Board in Chattogram, stated that the institutions' connections were cut off at 10:30 am on Monday.

As a result, the administrative building, two hostels, the Venom Research Centre, the forensic building, and the library of the medical college are without power.

Dr Sahena Akhtar, principal of Chattogram Medical College, said, "We had some unpaid electricity bills, which led to the disconnection. We are sending a letter requesting the reconnection of electricity. We have also written to the ministry regarding the unpaid bills. Our main outstanding bill is Tk 71 lakh, but with various charges, it has reached nearly Tk 1,29,00,000."

Humayun Kabir, Chief Engineer of the Chattogram Power Division, said, "We issued several notices. Still, they did not pay the electricity bill. We only disconnected the academic building's electricity line. The hostels still have power. CMCH authorities have yet to contact us."

Meanwhile, the electricity line of the Railway Eastern Region Office was cut off again after a month at 9:30 am on Monday.

Earlier, on May 19, PDB disconnected the electricity lines of the CRB and Pahartali offices of the Railway Eastern Region. The electricity connection was reconnected later that day after the railway authorities assured payment.
