Bangladesh and Russia on Friday signed a protocol of nuclear fuel for the first unit of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant (RNPP).

The protocol was signed by RNPP Project Director, Nuclear scientist Dr Md Shawkat Akbar on behalf of Bangladesh and Atomstroyexport Vice-President AV Diary on behalf of Russian Federation at TVEL Fuel Company, a subsidiary of Russian state-owned nuclear power conglomerate Rosatom on Friday morning.

With the signing, a new milestone has been touched in the progress of peaceful nuclear power generation.

As per the agreement, there will be no further payment for nuclear fuel for the following three years.

As a result of this protocol and readiness certificate between the two countries, there is no more hindrance in fuel production as per international regulations and IAEA guidelines and regulatory requirements.
