The government has hiked the prices of diesel and kerosene by Tk 15 per litre due to the rising prices of oil in the international market.
With this, per litre of diesel and kerosene will be sold at Tk 80 from Thursday.
Power Division of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources issued a press release in this regard on Wednesday, signed by its Deputy Principal Information Officer Mir Mohammad Aslam Uddin.
It said the prices of other petroleum products will remain unchanged.
Due to the upward trend in the world market, the neighbouring countries along with other countries regularly adjusted the price of fuel oil, the release said.
However, Bangladesh has been selling oil at a lower price which caused Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation to incur around Tk 20 crore losses daily, it said.
In October 2021, BPC faced a total of Tk 726.71 crore losses as it supplied different grades of petroleum products at current prices.
Considering the overall situation, the government has increased the price of diesel and kerosene from Tk 65 to Tk 80 per litre.
