State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid on Thursday expressed hope that the electricity crisis will improve within three to four days, with the gas situation being resolved by mid-July.
Addressing concerns about disruptions in household cooking and reduced production in industrial factories due to the gas crisis, the State Minister assured the public that the situation is under control.
"We are hopeful that gas supply will be uninterrupted by around the 15th-16th of this month," he told journalists during a post-budget press conference at the Bangladesh Secretariat in the capital.
He also said that the power situation would significantly improve in the next few days, with the activation of the Payra Power Plant and the resumption of electricity supply. India’s Adani Power will also start contributing to the national grid.
Nasrul explained that fluctuations in the dollar's value have created a significant gap between the cost of electricity production and its selling price. This financial challenge has impacted the power sector, but measures are being taken to address the issue.
In response to a question about international cooperation, the State Minister revealed plans to finalise an agreement with Nepal in July.
This agreement will secure a consistent electricity supply from a Nepalese power plant at a stable rate for the next 20 years, ensuring long-term energy stability for the country.
