Adani Group’s Godda coal-fired power plant in India’s Jharkhand, which is currently under construction, will start supplying electricity to Bangladesh from mid-March, said State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid.

“A dedicated transmission line has been set up from Jharkhand state to Bogura for this purpose,” he told reporters after visiting the 1,600MW Godda power plant on Tuesday, according to a press release.

Power Division Secretary Md Habibur Rahman and Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) Chairman Md Mahbubur Rahman were present there.

The state minister had further said, “750MW electricity from the first unit of the power plant would be available by mid-March this year.

“We will need more electricity in summer. We are also looking for alternative sources of fuel for the cheap electricity and working on providing uninterrupted power supply in the days ahead.”

Adani Group is building a 1,600MW power plant in Jharkhand under the agreement signed between the BPDB and the Adani Power Ltd, India, in November 2017. The power plant was supposed to start supplying electricity from its first unit on December 16 last year.
