The government on Monday slashed the fuel prices by Tk 5 per litre.

With the fresh adjustment, per litre diesel and kerosene prices will be Tk 109, petrol Tk 125, and Octane Tk 130.

The prices will come into effect from early Tuesday, the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources said in a press release.

State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid said the fuel prices have been adjusted due to some reduction in tariff, according to the release.

“We will make adjustments again if the fuel prices drop on the global market,” he added.

On August 5, the government increased fuel prices to a record high amid the volatility in the global market.

Diesel and kerosene retail prices were fixed at Tk 114 per litre while that of petrol at Tk 130 per litre and octane at Tk 135 a litre.

The fuel price hike and high inflation particularly hit hard the life and livelihood of the lower and middle-income groups.
