The integrated energy and power master plan will help build an environmentally friendly, cost-effective, uninterrupted power and energy system in Bangladesh.
A third stakeholder meeting was held on Tuesday at the Intercontinental Hotel to finalize the integrated energy and power master plan, which was prepared by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
Earlier the 1st stakeholder meeting was held on 23rd November 2021 and the 2nd meeting was held on 3rd July 2022.
Prime Minister's Energy Advisor Towfiq-e-Ilahi Chowdhury, Bir Bikram, was present as the chief guest, while State minister for power, energy and mineral resources Nasrul Hamid delivered speech as the special guest.
Towfiq said that everyone should use natural resources with maintaining responsibility. “The ‘Loss and Damage Fund for Vulnerable Countries’ of the COP 27 could use as per as promised, then the use of carbon capture-related technologies will be expanded,” he said.
Nasrul Hamid said that the integrated master plan will help build environment-friendly, cost-effective uninterrupted power and energy system in Bangladesh.
“The master plan will also provide guidelines for uninterrupted power and energy supply at affordable price and diversified and versatile use of energy,” he said.
The state minister said that Bangladesh is moving forward with the goal of creating a low-carbon emission country by 2050 on the basis of stable supply and affordable energy.
“Clean energy will be at least 40 per cent for the electricity by 2041, we want to meet the desired standards of living and economic growth through achieving carbon neutrality by 2070,” he said.
The government’s aim is to use a diversified energy mix and advanced technology to meet the energy demand of around 71 GW to 92 GW by 2050.
In the third stakeholder meeting, six plans were presented and discussed on primary energy and electricity demand forecasting, electrification planning, primary energy supply, energy efficiency policy, legal framework analysis related to LNG and environmental assessment strategy.
Energy Secretary Md Mahbub Hossain, Power Secretary Md Habibur Rahman and outgoing Ambassador of Japan in Dhaka ITO NAUKI spoke at the event.
