The remote island of Kutubdia was connected to the national grid through submarine cable on Wednesday night.
Electricity supply to the area started at around 9:15pm, Bangladesh Power Development Board Director (public relations) Shamim Hasan said.
Kutubdia was connected to the national grid by installing a 33 KV overhead line from Cox’s Bazar’s Matarbari substation via a river crossing tower, laying a 5 km double circuit 33 KV submarine cable with fibre optics along the bed of Kutubdia channel, and opening a 33/11 KV substation in Kutubdia Island.
