Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) Chairman ABM Azad has said that the new prices of fuel will be fixed within the next three days depending on reduction of advance and import duties.
“But it depends on the energy ministry when the consumers will be able to get those benefits,” Azad said during a press briefing on Monday.
Recently fuel price hike and high inflation have become a topic of discussion in the country that hit hard the lower and middle-income people.
On Sunday, the government slashed the duty on diesel import from 10 per cent to 5 per cent and withdrew the existing 5 per cent advance duty.
“Now, the tariff cut has created an opportunity to reduce costs of transportation, irrigation, and other services that rely on diesel,” said the BPC chairman.
On August 5, the government hiked the prices of fuel to a record high.
The diesel price was increased by Tk 34 to Tk 114 per litre, octane by Tk 46 to Tk 135 and petrol by Tk 44 to Tk 130 per litre. The price of kerosene was also increased to Tk 114, in the across-the-board raise.
