The officials and employees of Power Grid Bangladesh PLC (PGBL) have raised concerns regarding alleged irregularities committed by the board of directors over the past 15 years and demanded disciplinary actions for the directors involved.
Nearly one hundred officials and employees organised a rally in front of the city’s Power Grid Bangladesh PLC head office on Monday afternoon where they placed this demand.
Former PGBL general manager (finance) Mohammed Selim led the rally.
Mohammed Selim said, “The directors wasted around Tk 10 thousand crore by using aluminium conductor composite core instead of conventional conductor in the operational line.
“Abul Kalam Azad, the former chairman of the Power Grid Bangladesh PLC board, appointed many employees without following the service rules and regulations. He also hired many people based on political affiliations, rather than their qualifications and merit.”
Selim pointed out, “A number of employees were fired because they were believed to be affiliated with BNP-Jamaat. The country’s students once again led a revolution, resulting in victory. We are calling for the reinstatement of the dismissed officials.”
He also demanded the formation of a non-partisan interview board for better governance at Power Grid Bangladesh PLC. He emphasised that PGBL should adhere to company law and at the same time, ministry’s influence should be minimised.
