The welcoming surge in electricity production over the last decade has been pivotal for the macroeconomic success of Bangladesh, said former governor of Bangladesh Bank Dr Atiur Rahman.
Atiur was addressing a webinar titled ‘Bangladesh at 50: Amazing Journey of Inclusive Development’ organised by Bangladesh Power Management Institute (BPMI) on Saturday.
In his keynote presentation Atiur said that the power division must play a key role in the proliferation of green or renewable energy in Bangladesh.
The surge in electricity production has fueled success in agriculture, growth in non-farming sector in rural areas, digitisation of government services among others, he added.
Power division secretary Md Habibur Rahman at the webinar said that his division is working relentlessly to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply to every household in the country within the shortest possible time.
