PHP Ship Breaking & Recycling Industries Limited, one of the country's largest conglomerates received the 'Maritime Award-2021' for its outstanding contribution to the shipping sector.

Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun handed over the award to Sufi Mohammad Mizanur Rahman, the founding chairman of the PHP family, at a function held at a hotel in the capital on the occasion of World Naval Day on Thursday.

In a response to Dainik Amader Shomoy at the end of the ceremony, Sufi Mizanur Rahman said, “We are overwhelmed, happy and proud to receive the award.”

He thanked the Government of Bangladesh, the Ministry of Shipping and the Ministry of Industry for the honour.

“We have been working in this sector for a long time since our country's independence. We have stunned the world with our world-class shipbreaking and recycling work,” he added.

“Our responsibility has increased with the respect we have received today and we are ready to work harder to protect the dignity of our country in the future," he further said.

"One day we will turn ‘Sonar Bangla’ (Golden Bengal) into ‘Hirar Bangla’ (Diamond Bengal)," he made a hope.

This year, awards and honours were given in five categories for special contributions in the shipping sector at a function organised by the Department of Shipping.

PHP Shipbreaking and Recycling Industries Limited for Green Ship Recycling, SR Shipping Limited for Ship Acquisition, Haque And Sons Limited for Ship Fairers Employment, Bangladesh Marine Academy for Maritime Training and Captain Nasir Uddin and crews of MV Jawad for bravery in the sea got the award this year.
