Popular actors Mosharraf Karim and Nusrat Imrose Tisha have joined a digital campaign launched by the International Organization for Migration to create awareness against human trafficking and ensure safe immigration.
In separate video messages, they talked about prevention of human trafficking and safe migration, on the occasion of World Anti-Human Trafficking Day on July 30.
“The victims of trafficking are often subjected to physical, mental abuse and even death,” said Mosharraf while talking about the consequences of human trafficking. He blamed several reasons including financial debt, forced marriage and sexual abuse for this.
The actor urged everyone to be cautious while using social media. “Traffickers are targeting young people through Facebook, Tiktok, WhatsApp and other platforms. By tempting for jobs, they traffic our loved ones by trapping them.”
Tisha called for ensuring safe immigration without falling into the clutches of potential immigrants.
She urged foreign employment seekers to go to the nearest district employment and human resources office and register to ensure safe migration. “Improve skills with training. When it is final to go abroad, check all the documents, including passport, visa, and work certificate,” Tisha added.
IOM has launched various programs on the occasion of World Anti-Human Trafficking Day.
On the occasion, representatives of the government, Bangladesh United Nations Network on Migration (BDUNNM), members of civil society, and private sector joined a virtual webinar on July 28.
The webinar highlighted the experiences of survivors of human trafficking and the risks faced by an estimated 7,00,000 Bangladeshis each year during migration abroad.
