Bangladesh Film Actors’ Association (Cholochitro Shilpi Samity) suspended the membership of Dhallywood actress Pori Moni on Saturday two days after her arrest in a drugs case.
The artistes’ association made the disclosure at a press briefing held at the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) around 5:00pm.
“The decision was taken at a meeting of the association on Saturday.” Shilpi Samity President, actor Misha Sawdagor told journalists.
“The incident of Pori Moni is embarrassing for the artiste community,” he said mentioning that the association will not make any comment over the incident as the case of Pori Moni is ongoing.
Shilpi Samity General Secretary Zayed Khan, Vice Presidents Dipjol and Rubel and Executive Committee members Aruna Biswas, Anjana Sultana Jacky Alamgir and Aliraj, among others, were present at the press briefing.
Pori Moni was placed on a four-day remand after she was detained by Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) during a raid at her Banani residence in the capital on Wednesday. The elite force claimed to have recovered drugs and foreign liquor from her residence. A case was filed against her under the Narcotics Control Act with Banani Police Station next day.
Meanwhile, Pori Moni’s costume designer Junaid Karim Jimmy was placed on a three-day remand on Saturday, in a drugs case filed with the same police station, after he was arrested by the Detective Branch (DB) of police in the capital’s Gulshan on Friday.
Besides, film producer and owner of Raz Multimedia, Nazrul Islam Raz, who produced the first film of Pori Moni, was also detained by RAB during a drive carried out at his residence in Banani on Wednesday night. Drug items were also recovered from his possession during the drive.
