One of the most anticipated films of the year, ‘August 1975’, based on the assassination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on the night of August 15, 1975, will be released on streaming platform Cinebaz on the occasion of the National Mourning Day.
The multi-starrer film produced by Shapla Media International received censor clearance from Bangladesh Film Censor Board (BFCB) on Tuesday.
The film will be available to viewers, free of cost, on the website and app of Shapla Media’s over-the-top platform Cinebaz from August 15.
Apurba Rana, head of programmes at Cinebaz, confirmed the news to The Business Post Thursday.
‘August 1975’ will also be screened in cinema halls maintaining Covid-19 health guidelines from August 20, said Rana. The film is directed by Selim Khan while its story, screenplay and script are written by filmmaker Shamim Ahmed Roni.
The film depicts the dark night of August 15, 1975 when Bangabandhu along with most of his family members were brutally killed, and a series of events that happened the next day.
Dilara Zaman, Tauquir Ahmed, Jayanta Chattopadhyay, Tanvin Sweety, Taskeen Rahman, Anisur Rahman Milon, Maznun Mizan, Shahed Ali, Shahiduzzaman Selim, Tushar Khan, Fazlur Rahman Babu, Masuma Rahman Nabila and Aman Reza are in the huge ensemble of cast of ‘August 1975’.
Talking to The Business Post on Thursday, Tanvin Sweety said, “When I was first approached for the film, the Covid-19 situation was not very good. But still I wanted to do the film because I thought the film will be a document on our great history. I am grateful to be a part of the film. I will be seen playing the role of Zohra Tajuddin in it.”
“The story is about the darkest night of August 15 when Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was killed along with his family members. The film will depict the situation of Dhaka after Bangabandhu’s assassination,” she added.
Earlier, a 1:33-minute teaser of the film was released on the YouTube channel of Shapla Media on August 9, 2020.
