EMMA STONE RETURNS IN 'CRUELLA 2'

Oscar winning-actress Emma Stone has signed a deal to star in the second instalment of ‘Cruella’.

The news of ‘Cruella 2’ development came out in early June, just weeks after the live-action prequel to the Disney animated classic ‘101 Dalmatians’ opened in theaters, reports Variety.

At the time, ‘Cruella’ director Craig Gillespie and screenwriter Tony McNamara were both expected to return for the new movie, but a deal was not yet done for Stone.

“This agreement demonstrates that there can be an equitable path forward that protects artists and aligns studios’ interests with talent,” Patrick Whitesell, Executive Chairman of Endeavor said. “We are proud to work alongside Emma and Disney, and appreciate the studio’s willingness to recognize her contributions as a creative partner. We are hopeful that this will open the door for more members of the creative community to participate in the success of new platforms,” he added.

The new agreement comes on the heels of Scarlett Johansson’s breach of contract suit against Disney over the company’s decision to release ‘Black Widow’ simultaneously on Disney Plus and in theaters.

Craig Gillespie and Tony McNamara will return as directors and writers for the Cruella sequel. The 2021 film served as an origin tale for the famous Disney villain from 101 Dalmatians, influenced by punk rock from the 1980s.

Cruella released simultaneously in cinemas and on Disney+ on May 28 as part of the streaming service’s Premier Access tier, to date, the film has grossed $85 million at the box office.
