Shakib stands by Pori Moni, slams Shilpi Samity

Dhallywood megastar Shakib Khan finally came in support of jailed actress Pori Moni and came down heavily on the Bangladesh Chalachhitra Shilpi Samity (Bangladesh Film Artistes’ Association) for suspending her membership upon mere allegations.

On Saturday, Shakib took to his social media handle raising his concern over the social media trial of Pori Moni.

A Dhaka court on Friday sent Pori Moni rejecting her bail plea. Rapid Action Battalion arrested her on August 4 at her Banani home. She was later remanded multiple times for interrogation.

“As far I know as a colleague, Pori Moni is an orphan. Her struggle and that of other young people are not the same. She might not have taken the right decision many times for lack of guidance,” wrote Shakib.

“The way people are putting Pori Moni in the dock on social networking sites is shocking,” said Shakib. “The case against Pori Moni is under trial. I’m not speaking anything about that, not analysing what was her offence. I have respect for the law and justice system. Surely, justice will be ensured after impartial investigation.”

Shakib came down heavily on the Shilpi Samity for its treatment of Pori Moni. He found the Samity’s decision to suspend Pori’s membership was similar to ‘rubbing salt to the wound’.

“Instead of standing by Pori Moni in her dire straits, the Shilpi Samity suspended her membership hurriedly arranging a press conference,” said Shakib adding that this gesture of the Samity was ‘very mysterious’.

He said a number of senior artistes were arrested in the past with serious accusations and the Shilpi Samity then did not suspend their membership rather stood by them and took to the streets in their support.

Shakib accused the Shilpi Samity of ruining the work environment of the film industry by dividing the artistes which resulted in the incumbent poor condition of the industry.

“It is now clear that the Shilpi Samity has failed to unite the artistes,” said Shakib.
