Popular actress Jaya Ahsan’s much-awaited Tollywood film ‘Binisutoy’ (Without Strings) is scheduled to be released in theatres in West Bengal on August 20 following delays due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
“The film will be released in theatres for now. But we are not sure yet whether it will also go for an OTT release in future. I am very happy about the release of the film,” Jaya Ahsan told The Business Post on Sunday.
‘Binisutoy’ is directed by Atanu Ghosh and stars popular Tollywood actor Ritwick Chakraborty, alongside Jaya. A trailer of the film was released on Sunday.
In the film, Jaya will appear as Srabani Barua opposing Ritwick Chakraborty as Kajal Sarker.
“Kajal and Srabani, two people in their mid-thirties, meet at a reality game show audition. The common background helps them in striking up a quick bond. An accident injures Srabani and Kajal takes her to the doctor. On the way, they share two engrossing stories from their lives. The captivating human drama culminates in an ironic altercation between them,” Atanu Ghosh wrote about the storyline of ‘Binisutoy’.
Regarding the collaboration with director Atanu Ghosh, who is known for the films like ‘Moyurakkhi’, ‘Ek Fali Rod’, ‘Tokhon Teish’, Jaya said: “Previously, I worked in ‘Robibar’ under the direction of Atanu Ghosh. My character in the film was very challenging. Now it seems to me that the character I played in ‘Binisutoy’ was more challenging. Atanu Ghosh is one of the directors who usually make niche films. I have already worked on two of his films.”
“‘Binisutoy’ has participated in many international film festivals. I am very hopeful that audience will like the film,” she added.
‘Binisutoy’ marks Jaya’s first-ever big-budget collaboration with actor Ritwick. “Ritwick Chakraborty is one of the most sensible and brilliant actors in recent times. It becomes very smooth to play the role when the co-actor is brilliant. That has been the case with him. He has done a brilliant job,” Jaya told The Business Post.
What’s more interesting apart from the unusual pair of Riwick and Jaya is that audience will get to see Jaya Ahsan’s singing talent in ‘Binisutoy’.
She said, “Actually, I am not a professional singer. But my character in ‘Binisutoy’ demanded to use my own voice in the songs. I did it only for the portrayal of the character and to make the character more realistic.”
‘Binisutoy’ has already garnered acclaim at several international film festivals. Ranked among the top ten Indian films in the list of FIPRESCI India Grand Prix 2020, the film also won the Best Screenplay and Best Music category at the Aurangabad International Film Festival in India. ‘Binisutoy’ was also screened at different film festivals in Italy, France and Spain and as the first Indian film at the 40th Hawaii International Film Festival.
Beside Jaya Ahsan and Ritwick Chakraborty, the film has an ensemble cast including Kaushik Sen, Chandrayee Ghosh and Kheya Chattopadhyay.
