Abdullah Mohammad Saad’s much-talked-about film ‘Rehana Maryam Noor’, which was screened at the 74th Cannes Film Festival’s prestigious ‘Un Certain Regard’ sidebar in July, has fallen victim to online piracy ahead of its official release. The film has already hit various online networking sites.
“It’s very unexpected. It cannot be accepted by any means!” actress Azmeri Haque Badhon, lead cast of ‘Rehana Maryam Noor’, told The Business Post after the news of the leak came out on Monday.
Contacted, Ehsanul Haque Babu, executive producer of the film, said that they had filed a case with the cybercrime unit of police.
“We are assuming that the film might have pirated while it was screening online at Melbourne International Film Festival,” he added.
‘Rehana Maryam Noor’ features Azmeri Haque Badhon, Saberi Alam, Afia Zahin, Kazi Sami Hasan, Afia Tabassum, Yasir Al Haque in the major roles.
Bangladesh’s maiden entry in the official selection at the Cannes, ‘Rehana Maryam Noor’ is scripted, edited and directed by Abdullah Mohammad Saad. The story of the film revolves around Rehana Maryam Noor, an assistant professor at a private medical college, played by Badhon.
Following the screening in Cannes Film Festival on July 7, ‘Rehana Maryam Noor’ was also screened online in Melbourne International Film Festival in August.
