Equally popular for her brilliant acting in Bangladesh and Kolkata film industry, celebrated Bangladeshi actress Jaya Ahsan-starrer latest film ‘Binisutoy’ saw its theatrical release in Kolkata on Friday.
Pairing up for two most significant roles in ‘Binisutoy’, Jaya Ahsan and Indian film actor Ritwick Chakraborty have collaborated for any big-budget film for the first time. Earlier, the duo appeared together in a short film titled ‘Valobashar Shohor’.
“Jaya is a brilliant actress. Knowing this I am telling that people will love Jaya in the film ‘Binisutoy’,” Ritwick said about his co-artiste Jaya in an interview with a Kolkata-based local media.
When asked about the film ‘Binisutoy’, Ritwick told, “When I work as an actor, I don’t think about on-screen chemistry between the artistes separately. Screenplay, moments–everything all together makes a film beautiful. If the artistes are good, they might add more layers to the scenes. I don’t understand if anyone is a bad actor (laughs out loud). But one thing I know for sure is that Jaya is a very brilliant actress.”
In ‘Binisutoy,’ Kajal Sarkar (Ritwick Chakraborty) and Sraboni Barua (Jaya Ahsan) are two strangers who meet at the audition of a reality game show, and their journey grows into a captivating tale of intrigue, surprise, and enlightenment through some unexpected turns of events.
‘Binisutoy’ has already garnered acclaim at several international film festivals. The film was ranked among the top ten Indian films in the list of FIPRESCI India Grand Prix 2020. It was the only Indian film to be screened at the 40th Hawaii International Film Festival. The film won the Best Screenplay and Best Music awards at the Aurangabad International Film Festival in India. ‘Binisutoy’ was also screened at film festivals in Italy, France and Spain.
Alongside Jaya Ahsan and Ritwick, the film has an ensemble cast including Kaushik Sen, Chandrayee Ghosh, Kheya Chattopadhyay, among others, in different roles.
However, Jaya’s second film ‘Binisutoy’ with Indian filmmaker Atanu Ghosh has been released in only one cinema hall in Kolkata due to an extremely adverse situation for any movie release amid the ongoing corona virus pandemic.
Jaya explained in a Facebook post on Wednesday that why the film got its release in only one cinema hall. She wrote, “After so many days, the cinema halls are opening up again. But how many people will come to watch movies in a situation like this? Producers didn’t want to take the risks. But we thought that the viewers should be given a chance who want to watch the film in the theatres. Keeping this in mind, the screening will start at 3:00pm on Friday at Nandan 1 on its own initiative.”
“It costs a lot of money to release a film in many halls. If the people come to watch the film in Nandan, then we may increase the number of the halls. What will happen if the audience don’t response, we all know!,” she added.
