Matrix 4 now officially ‘The Matrix Resurrections’

Warner Bros came with a huge reveal Tuesday at its CinemaCon presentation: the trailer for its Village Roadshow co-production Matrix 4. And Warners also gave us the official title too: ‘The Matrix: Resurrections’, reports Deadline.

Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss return in their respective lead roles as Neo and Trinity on The Matrix Resurrections, and are joined by at least three supporting cast members in Jada Pinkett Smith as Zion rebel Niobe, Lambert Wilson as info trafficker The Merovingian, and Daniel Bernhardt as Agent Johnson.

Additionally, The Matrix Resurrections cast also includes the likes of Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Neil Patrick Harris, Jessica Henwick, Jonathan Groff, Toby Onwumere, Max Riemelt, Eréndira Ibarra, Priyanka Chopra, Andrew Caldwell, Brian J Smith, Ellen Hollman, and Christina Ricci.

The trailer begins with Neil Patrick Harris talking to Keanu Reeves’ Neo. A near future San Francisco. It appears that Neo is trapped in a humdrum world, much like his first self in the 1999 movie. He’s just not getting his surroundings.

‘The Matrix Resurrections’ arrives nearly 20 years after ‘The Matrix Reloaded’ and ‘The Matrix Revolutions’ — with a title that nicely continues the re-naming convention without going full Matrix Rebooted.

Lana Wachowski is directing the film on her own this time, based on a screenplay she co-wrote with Aleksandar Hemon and Cloud Atlas author David Mitchell.
