Kristen Stewart stuns as Princess Diana in ‘Spencer’ teaser

In the first teaser video for Pablo Larran’s next awards contender ‘Spencer’, Kristen Stewart turns as Princess Diana in a royal transformation, reports Entertainment Weekly.

It takes the audience back to Princess Diana’s tragic life after she entered her royal marriage. Spencer portrays a fictional version of a weekend at the Sandringham Estate that sealed her fate. And the opening clip gives the audience a wonderful preview of what is to come in the film.

The minute-long teaser is sad but intriguing. It transports the audience to the royal family’s vacation residence during a Christmas weekend in 1990. This was also a period in the Princess’s life when she was dealing with heightened media attention and marital problems with Prince Charles. The teaser perfectly captures the era. But it is Kristen Stewart in the titular role who grabs the most attention.

Neon released footage of the project to attendees at Cinemacon earlier this week, showing off a scene that features Stewart and Farthing squaring off over a pool table in the royal estate.

The film has been heavily tipped by pundits as a potential contender at the upcoming Academy Awards, with particular focus on Stewart’s performance after the actress made a stark transition from filming commercial blockbusters like ‘Twilight’ to well-received prestige dramas such as ‘Clouds of Sils Maria’ and ‘Personal Shopper’ in recent years. Larraín will debut Spencer at the Venice International Film Festival in September. It is set to screen at the 2021 Toronto International Film Festival shortly thereafter.
