‘Shang-Chi’ hits Star Cineplex today

Marvel’s first Asian super hero film ‘Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’ is releasing globally in theatres today. The film will be released at Star Cineplex in Bangladesh on the same day too, said a press release.

The film is centered on the popular Marvel Comics character Shang-Chi. The film, produced by Marvel Studios and presented by Walt Disney Motion Pictures, is set to release as the 25th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

‘Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’ portrays Simu Liu as a new Marvel hero who is the heir to a global assassination network. Following the events of ‘Avengers: Endgame,’ the film continues phase four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Cameos from previous Marvel characters, such as Abomination from ‘The Incredible Hulk,’ appear in ‘Shang-Chi.’

Liu is the first Asian protagonist in a Marvel picture, and she is joined by Awkwafina, Tony Leung, and Michelle Yeoh in the cast. Destin Daniel Cretton is the first Asian director to work on an MCU film. Marvel’s devotion to Asian inclusion in ‘Shang Chi’ has been compared to the popularity of 2017’s ‘Black Panther,’ which had a mostly Black cast and crew.

The trailer of the film shows how ‘Shang-chi’ wants to move forward, leaving his miserable past behind. But in the end, he has to face that cruel past again. He was again caught in the trap of the Ten Rings organization, which introduced him to martial arts as a child.

Currently, three Hollywood blockbuster films titled ‘Fast and Furious 9’, ‘Free guy’ and ‘Jungle Cruise’ are being screened in all branches of Star Cineplex, including the newly-launched Mirpur branch.

‘Shang-Chi’ will be screened at 1:00pm, 2:00pm, 3:45pm, 4:45pm, 6:30pm. 7:30pm in all four branches of Star Cineplex.
