The royalty incomes generated from publishing old songs online or in digital platforms will be equally allocated among four parties—lyricists, composers, recording artistes and production labels-- who own the copyright of the songs.
Bangladesh Copyright Office issued a notification in this regard on September 5.
“Lyricist, composer, vocalist and label company—each of them will get 25 per cent royalty share—for the old songs those were only made for CDs, VCDs and cassettes, and for which the label company did not have to invest money again nor the lyricist, composer or vocalist had to reinvest any talent or labour,” reads the notice signed by Copyright Registrar Jafar Raja Chowdhury.
The decision came from a meeting of the Copyright Board held on March 22, it adds.
Musicians and production companies were asked to comply with the new policy while publishing any old song digitally.
