‘Venom: Let There Be Carnage’ release moves up to two weeks

Sony’s ‘Venom: Let There Be Carnage’, will be released two weeks earlier than scheduled. The Tom Hardy-led sequel was supposed to be published last fall, but the pandemic caused Sony to push it back to 2021, reports Hollywood Reporter.

The official Venom Twitter announced that Let There Be Carnage will hit theaters two weeks early. Instead of debuting on October 15 as planned, the film will now hit theaters on October 1. Sony also took time in the tweet to reiterate that ‘Venom 2’ will be an exclusive theatrical release.

The move comes on the heels of the strong performance of fellow comic book film ‘Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’, from Disney and Marvel Studios. That title, released exclusively in theaters this weekend, broke Labor Day records with $90 million in a win for the domestic box office still roiled by the delta variant and competition from studios sending titles day-and-date to streaming services.

Tom Hardy plays Eddie Brock, a journalist with an alien symbiote residing within him, in ‘Venom: Let There Be Carnage’. They become Venom when they work together. Woody Harrelson reprises his role as serial killer Cletus Kasady from the original ‘Venom’ film . This time, Harrelson’s Kasady morphs into Carnage, a villain recognized in the comics as Venom’s main enemy. The first Venom grossed $850 million worldwide.

Andy Serkis is directing ‘Venom: Let There Be Carnage.’ The first film, 2018’s ‘Venom,’ was a surprise box office smash, generating $855 million at the global box office. The sequel will star Woody Harrelson, Michelle Williams, Reid Scott and Naomie Harris.
