Sumona debuts in playback

Sheikh Farzana Tasnim Sumona, the winner of ‘Channel i Shera Kontho 2018’, is all set to make her debut as a playback singer in the government-funded film ‘Russel-er Jonno Opekkha’. The upcoming film is directed by Nur-e-Alam.

The recording of the song was completed recently. Yusuf Saber wrote the yet-to-be-titled song while its music was composed by Emon Saha.

Talking to The Business Post on Wednesday, Sumona said about making debut in playback, “As a singer, it’s a great achievement for me to do playback at such a young age. Every singer has a dream to do playbacks. I didn’t even expect in my dream that I would get this chance. But it is a reality now. I am very happy.”

She also shared about how much she respects eminent singer-musician Kumar Bishwajit who paved her way into playback. “A few days ago, I lent my vocal to Kumar Bishwajit sir’s tune. The song was written by Rintu sir (Liton Adhikary Rintu) and composed by Kishore Das. The song is currently in post production. I think this song is my turning point,” the young singer said.

“Kumar Bishwajit sir has given me the opportunity by putting his trust in me and respected Emon Saha has given me such a huge opportunity like playback,” added Sumona.

Sumona’s first playback song also caused a challenge for her as the song will be lip-synced by a child artiste in the film. She said, “Konal apu, Ankhi apu (Ankhi Alamgir) and other talented singers will also sing for this film. As a child will lip-sync my song, I had to change my voice a little as I got a mature voice compare to my age. But Emon Shaha believed in me and told me that I could do it well.”

When asked about the experience of collaborating with Emon Shaha, Sumona said, “Emon Shaha is a great music composer. He was a student of AR Rahman. I have learnt a lot from him. It is my pleasure to work with him. He is very cooperative.”

Emon Shaha also praised Sumona and wished her good luck after the recording.

In a recent Facebook post, Emon Shaha opened up how he picked Sumona for the playback. He said that he earlier received a voice clip of Sumona from Kumar Bishwajit, who was already impressed with her voice. After sending the clip, Kumar Bishwajit suggested him to work on it. “It was a wonderful and fresh tone,” wrote Emon. “After that, I have listened to all of Sumona’s songs available on YouTube. It seems that if she has the dedication, she will be able to go a long way in the music industry,” he added.
