Celebrated Bangladeshi actress Jaya Ahsan, who is equally popular in Kolkata film industry, is set to make her debut in the web series with a Hindi project. Indian filmmaker Sayantan Mukherjee will direct the web series.
Jaya will star opposite eminent Bollywood actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui in the yet-to-be-titled project based on Naxalite movement.
Director Sayantan Mukherjee confirmed the news to Kolkata media about casting Jaya and Nawazuddin in the lead roles of his web series.
The web series will explore the events leading up to the 1967 Naxalbari revolution in West Bengal. The two important characters of this series are the leader of Naxalite movement, Charu Majumdar and his wife Leela Majumdar.
The political web series will be based on the novel ‘Sada Ami Kalo Ami’ written by the controversial police officer Runu Guha Niyogi.
Nawazuddin Siddiqui will play role of Charu Majumdar and Jaya Ahsan will play the role of his wife Leela Majumdar.
“I have been thinking of casting Jaya ever since she did ‘Jhara Palak’. Jaya requested me to give her a chance to work at the national level. So, when I asked her, she agreed to play Leela Majumdar,” director Sayantan Mukherjee told regarding casting Jaya in Leela Majumdar’s character.
In addition, the role of the chief minister, late Siddhartha Shankar Roy, will play by Sabyasachi Chakraborty in the web series. Shaswata Chatterjee is thought to be in the role of Kanu Sanyal, one of Charu Majudar’s companions. Besides, the producer initially thought of Paresh Rawal or Boman Irani for the role of Jyoti Basu.
According to the media, the series will be presented in three episodes as per the initial plan. The first episode will be from 1948-1972, while the second episode will be from 1982-1990, and the last episode will have the current context from 1990.
The web series will be shot in Kolkata, Mumbai, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh as well as China and Russia. The series is now in pre-production. The web series will be in Hindi, Bangla and English dubbing. The series is expected to start its shooting after Puja, according to the director.
