After much speculation surrounding who would play the character of Rabeya in ‘Gunnin’, Dhallywood actress Pori Moni has been finally roped in for eminent filmmaker Giasuddin Selim’s upcoming web film.
Giasuddin Selim has confirmed the news to The Business Post on Saturday regarding casting Pori Moni in ‘Gunnin’.
“Pori Moni’s name was in the back of my mind for the role of Rabeya for quite a few days,” he said.
“She fits well for the character. Another reason I chose her is that I think she needs to get back to work as soon as possible after the terrible hardships she endured in recent times. I worked with her before in ‘Swapnajaal’ and web series ‘Preeti’. I have faith in her ability, and I believe she will portray the character perfectly,” Selim said.
‘Gunnin’ is an adaptation of a short story with the same name authored by prominent writer Hasan Azizul Haque. It is a story of a farmers village against the backdrop of the ‘70s. Its script and dialogue are written by director Selim.
‘Gunnin’ is the first film that Pori Moni signed up to work after being released from the jail on bail recently following her arrest in a case filed over illegal possession of foreign liquor last month.
When asked about the risk of hampering the film’s shooting as Pori Moni is still fighting the case, Selim said, “We have to take some risk if we have to succeed. I have no problem with that. I think we can manage.”
The cast of ‘Gunnin’ includes Iresh Zaker, Mostofa Monwar and Azad Abul Kalam in different roles. Besides, Nayla Azad Nupur, Dilara Zaman and Shilpi Sarker are also expected to join the cast of the web film.
Previously, popular actress Nusraat Faria signed up for the role of Rabeya and had to leave the film due to scheduling conflicts with her other projects.
