Naima crowned Miss Earth Bangladesh

Umme Zamilatun Naima from Sylhet won the title of Miss Earth Bangladesh this year. She succeeded Miss Earth Bangladesh 2020 title holder Meghna Alam.

The grand finale of the annual beauty pageant was held at a posh hotel in the capital city on September 24.

Among the finalists, Shakila Tanha was crowned Miss Air Bangladesh while Pial Sarker Miss Fire and Fahmida Zahir Barsha Miss Water Bangladesh. Besides, Farjahan Piya bagged the prize of Miss Beautiful Face and Arusha Abida Miss Social Media Influencer.

Naima will represent Bangladesh at the 21st edition of the Philippines-based international beauty pageant, Miss Earth 2021, which promotes environmental awareness, conservation and social responsibility. This year’s theme is ‘Colors of the Earth’.

“I am ever so grateful to the people who have held my hands throughout this journey, and to all those who believed in me. I am also truly overwhelmed by all the love and warmth I have been receiving from everyone since last night,” Naima wrote on her Facebook after securing the title.

“I want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart. A crown is not just for a queen; it’s for all those who believe in her. What a beautiful day to be on Earth!” she added.

Meghna Alam, Miss Earth Bangladesh 2020, Naila Bari, National Director of Miss Earth Bangladesh and Rokeya Faruqui, Rotary First Lady crowned the winners at the event.

Miss Earth Bangladesh 2021 is organised by Triple Nine Global and Rotary District 3281.

At the event, Dr Mubarak Ahmad Khan, innovator of jute-made biodegradable polybag ‘Sonali Bag’, Professor Abdullah Abu Sayeed, Muqeed Majumdar Babu, Mutasim Billah Faruqui, Naila Bari and Dr SI Khan were conferred with ‘Friends of Nature’ memorial honour.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud was present at the event as the chief guest.

The event had performances by singers Tasnim Anika, Prottoy Khan, rappers Hasan and Anu.

Miss Earth 2020 Lindsey Coffey of Pennsylvania, United States, will crown her successor at this year’s event expected to be held in November in Philippines.
