Nawazuddin refutes rumours of working with Jaya

Celebrated Indian actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui has refuted the news about his involvement in the web series ‘Naxal Bari Uprising’ which also stars popular Bangladeshi actor Jaya Ahsan in a lead role. In a recent interview with News 18, Nawazuddin revealed he is not working in any OTT platform series.

Earlier, director of the web series Sayantan Mukherjee confirmed the news to media about casting Jaya and Nawazuddin in the lead roles of ‘Naxal Bari Uprising’.

“I am not doing any web series. These are all rumours and I haven’t signed anything. I am not interested in doing anything on OTT unless something that really excites me comes up” Nawazuddin revealed to News 18 that he is also staying away from OTT for the time being and also refutes rumours of working with Bangladeshi actress Jaya Ahsan in a web series.

Nawazuddin, who is currently in London shooting for ‘Heropanti 2’, feels sad with the overload of content on streaming platforms, “There is no doubt that OTT platform gave me a global presence. After ‘Sacred Games’, whenever I would travel abroad, many people would recognise me and even call me Ganesh Gaitonde (his character in Sacred Games). But sadly, today the quality of content has deteriorated. People are now bored of watching the same thing and that is why we hardly see any web series or films which have been widely praised in recent times.”

The political web series ‘Naxal Bari Uprising’ will be based on the novel ‘Sada Ami Kalo Ami’ written by the controversial police officer Runu Guha Niyogi.

According to the previous reports, the makers wanted to cast Nawazuddin Siddiqui in the role of Charu Majumdar and Jaya Ahsan as his wife Leela Majumdar.

In addition, the role of the chief minister, late Siddhartha Shankar Roy, will play by Sabyasachi Chakraborty in the web series. Shaswata Chatterjee is thought to be in the role of Kanu Sanyal, one of Charu Majudar’s companions. Besides, the producer initially thought of Paresh Rawal or Boman Irani for the role of Jyoti Basu.

According to the media, the series will be presented in three episodes as per the initial plan. The first episode will be from 1948-1972, while the second episode will be from 1982-1990, and the last episode will have the current context from 1990.
