Being crowned as Miss World Bangladesh 2018 was like getting a shot in the arm for Jannatul Ferdous Oishee. Her career jumpstarted as she won the hearts of millions with her innocent-and-winsome smile. Though none of her films has been released yet due to the pandemic, she has completed the shooting for a handful of films, namely ‘Mission Extreme 1’, ‘Mission Extreme 2’ and ‘Adam’. Recently, she has started shooting for her upcoming film ‘Noor’. In a candid conversation with The Business Post’s Antara Raisa, she has shared her shooting experience and visions.
The Business Post: Tell us about your character in ‘Noor’.
Oishee: I can’t disclose anything right now. But I can assure you that the audience didn’t see me in this avatar before. That’s why I want to keep it as a surprise for the audience.
TBP: How were you approached for the film?
Oishee: At first, I gave audition twice for the film. I was given some sequences of the film. After they saw my acting, the director called me and told me to come for script reading. The director later informed me that they wanted to cast me in the film. That’s how I signed for the film.
TBP: Taking an audition for a film is quite a new practice in our industry. What do you feel about it?
Oishee: I feel this is a very positive development for the industry. In fact, I am very happy that they cast me after auditioning me first. Now, I can proudly say that I got the character in the film after going through the audition. I think the quality of our works will increase if we practise this type of professionalism. All the actors give auditions in other industries because being a superstar and playing a role on the screen is different. I feel more confident now when I stand in front of the camera.
TBP: How was your shooting experience with Arifin Shuvoo?
Oishee: It’s a blessing to have such a brilliant co-artist in the film. In this film, I do not have many sequences with him. But for my debut film ‘Mission Extreme’, I couldn’t have asked for a better co-artist than him. Whenever I make mistakes, he behaves so patiently. He works as my mentor. He always inspires me.
TBP: What type of stories intrigue you?
Oishee: Anything that has a good storyline will make me proud of being a part of that venture. The moment I heard the story of ‘Noor’, I knew I wanted to be a part of this film. I was elated when I got selected for the lead character.
TBP: Do you want to continue your career on the big screen only?
Oishee: I do not have plans to work on small screens. I want to work in films. It can be web films too. But right now, I am going slow. I have been approached for OTT projects, but I still didn’t say yes to any of those. As none of my films has been released so far, I want to experience the feeling of seeing myself first on the big screen.
TBP: Where do you see yourself in the next five years?
Oishee: I want to learn every day. I want to learn as much as possible in the next five years. I want to grow.
