Gazi Mazharul Anwar to be honoured for lifetime achievement

Lifetime Achievement Award will be conferred on celebrated lyricist-music director Gazi Mazharul Anwar at the Rtv Music Award 2020 scheduled to be held at Hotel Sonargaon on October 2.

He will be honoured with the accolade in the first edition of Rtv Music Award as recognition to his outstanding contribution to the field of music.

Rtv confirmed the news in a press release issued Thursday.

Apart from being one of the best lyricists and music directors in the country, Gazi Mazharul Anwar has also acted as a film director, producer and screenwriter.

Gazi worked as a lyricist in Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra. He won the National Film Award in Best Lyricist category for record six times for the films ‘Tit for Tat’, ‘Ajante’, ‘Churiwala’, ‘Lal Dariya’, ‘Kakhano Megh Kakhano Brishti’, and ‘Meyeti Ekhan Kothay Jabe’.

He was awarded with the Ekushey Padak in 2002 and with the Independence Day Award in 2021.

Gazi began his career as a lyricist at Radio Pakistan. He later started working as a lyricist in the Dhallywood film industry in 1965. He composed music for Zahir Raihan’s films ‘Kancher Deyal’, ‘Behula’ and ‘Dui Bhai’.

He wrote the lyrics in the film titled ‘Ayna O Oboshishto’ in 1986. His debut directorial film is ‘Nantu Ghatak’ was released in 1972. He directed 41 films, most of which were well received by the audience.

For his contribution in the 1971 Liberation War, he received the ‘Bangladesh President Gold Medal Award’.

The Rtv Music awards will be given in 10 categories — Best Singer (male and female), Best Folk Singer (male and female), Best Promising Singer, Best Band, Best lyricist, Best Music Director and Best Musician.

The event will be broadcasted live on Rtv and its Facebook page and YouTube channel at 5:00pm on October 2.
