Ten artistes from Bangladesh and Indian state of West Bengal have collaborated for a special song marking the upcoming ‘Durga Puja’, the largest festival of Bengali Hindu.
The singers who lent their voice to the song are—Kumar Bishwajit, Rupankar Bagchi, Iman Chakrabarty, Pintu Ghosh, Chandan Sinha, Kishore Das, Abanti Sithi, Sukanya Majumdar, Badhon Sarker Puja and Keshab Roy Chowdhury.
Written by Keshab Roy Chowdhury, the song ‘Joy Durga Ma’ has its composition and music done by Kishore Das.
The song was scheduled to release on the YouTube channel of Kumar Bishwajit’s production house GaanChobi Entertainment on Wednesday night.
Regarding the collaboration, celebrated singer Kumar Bishwajit told The Business Post, “This is the first time I have been part of such an arrangement for a Puja song. I was involved in the whole project. It was very tough to collect some typical instruments and its players to create the Puja sounds while making the song. I feel a bond with the sound of dhak (musical instrument). I was first attracted by dhak in my childhood. I was very soulfully connected with this instrument.”
“I always want to harmonise with those who are singing today. It’s a matter of pleasure always to team up with the new generation. It’s our responsibility to bring them closer,” he said.
Singer-composer Kishore said, “I never have done any song on Ma Durga before. Devotionally speaking, I eagerly wanted to do such a song. I want to thank all of the participating co-artistes in the song ‘Joy Durga Ma’. Ninety per cent of them did it without any charge”.
“The song is basically of festive mood. It’s a blending of festivity and devotional spirits as well,” he added.
Singer Abanti Sithi, one of the singers in ‘Joy Durga Ma’, said, “The song has been prepared with a large-scale arrangement. I always enjoy being part of such giant collaboration like each year when the puja arrives. In fact, I love such kind of big collaboration with other artistes. Those who have teamed up in the song this year are very renowned personalities from both the Bengals. So, it was a too good experience,”
“This year’s Puja is special to me because I am releasing four songs with different tastes on this occasion. One of these, titled ‘Pujo Ebar Jome Jabe’, has been released meanwhile for which I am getting a very good response. I have released another song titled ‘Ma-er Agomoni’”.
“The next song will be a very different one, composed by Mithun Chakra, based on the spirit of Adishakti.”
“I am getting a very positive response for my single ‘Pujo Ebar Jome Jabe’. Meanwhile, many of the fans have covered the song on the internet. The song is different from the traditional Puja songs with the vibes of Puja and romance,” added the singer.
“The video arrangement for ‘Joy Ma Durga’’ was huge. It was shot on the premises of a very old temple near Rayerbazar in Dhaka. The video also has been very different from the regular ones. The whole video has been very festive having no lip-syncing of the singers. But, the participating singers will appear in the video for a while,” said Sithi.
“I will be spending very busy times during the days of Durga Puja. I will perform in open-air concerts and TV shows during the festival. In fact, Puja turns out to be very festive if we are into songs,”
“This year’s Puja is very special because people have started returning to normal life after a long time due to the pandemic and lockdown. We could not take part in any celebration for long. I think, fans would celebrate the Durga Puja this time in festive manners,” added Sithi.
