Independent filmmaker Proshoon Rahmaan has announced a full-length film, titled ‘Priya Satyajit’, to pay tribute to the legendary Bengali filmmaker and writer Satyajit Ray, on the occasion of his birth centenary.
Popular actor Ahmed Rubel will be seen playing a lead role in the upcoming film.
Confirming the news to The Business Post on Wednesday, producer and director of the film Proshoon Rahmaan said, “There are direct and indirect influence of Satyajit Ray on the growth and development of many filmmakers in this subcontinent. Satyajit Ray is the inspiration for most of the independent film makers who have been interested in making films”.
“Meanwhile, Netflix India has made a series in Hindi titled ‘Ray’ from the story of Satyajit Ray. Two more films are being made from Satyajit’’s hometown Kolkata. On the occasion of his birth centenary this year, no such initiative was seen in Bangladesh. So, I have come up with the plan to make a full-length film titled ‘Priya Satyajit’ to pay tribute to him on my own,” he said.
The story is about 3 filmmakers of three periods. The first one is Satyajit Ray himself. And the two others are from the next two generations. In the film, Ahmed Rubel will play the role of veteran producer Asif Mahmood.
Regarding the casting of actor Ahmed Rubel in the lead role, Proshoon said, “When I prepared the screenplay for ‘Priya Satyajit’, I was thinking of Ahmed Rubel for the character ‘Asif Mahmood’. When I shared the story with Ahmed Rubel, he instantly agreed to act in this film.”
Ahmed Rubel was last seen in the government-funded film ‘Alat Chakra’ adapted from a novel of prominent writer Ahmad Sofa. Rubel is currently co-starring actress Moushumi in Ashutosh Sujan’s ‘Deshantar’.
Proshoon said that the cast of another female character ‘Aparajita’ was yet to be finalised.
“If everything goes well, the producer has plans to shoot the film from the last week of October,” he added.
Proshoon is scheduled to release his third film titled ‘Dhaka Dream’ on October 22 for which a trailer will be released on the YouTube channel of ‘Bangla Dhol’ this week.
‘Priya Satyajit’ is being produced under the banner of Proshoon Rahmaan’s production house ‘Imation Creator’ and slated for the release on Satyajit Ray’s upcoming birthday on May 2, 2022.
