Plot of ‘Poddapuran’ revolves around a low-income community living on the bank of once mighty Padma River. Already hit by poverty, majority of them are also addicted to drugs. In the film, one of the female inhabitants named ‘Runa’ involved herself in drug trade and criminal activities.
Talking to The Business Post on the eve of the release, Rashid Polash said, “Having grown up in Rajshahi, I have observed the changes in course of the Padma River and the changing lifestyle of the people living along it very closely. That’s why I have made the film and named it Poddapuran”.
“It seems to me that when a river runs through a locality, it makes massive changes to the entire lifestyle and culture of the people living around it. ‘Poddapuran’ is the tale of the changed lifestyle of the people living along the Padma River,” he added.
“Prosun Azad acted wonderfully in the film. ‘Poddapuran’ would give her a grand comeback. Sumit Sengupta is undoubtedly a good actor. Sadia Mahi played an important lead character and did it very well. Shampa Reza is undoubtedly a good actress, a good performer,” Polash said further.
The movie has five songs with different tastes, directed by Chirkutt’s Jahid Nirob while the title track was done by Muhin, said the director.
When asked about his reaction as ‘Poddapuran marks his directorial debut, Rashid Polash said, “No words can explain this feeling. It’s unexplainable”.
