On the occasion of the Durga Puja festival, Sony’s ‘Venom: Let There be Carnage’, a sequel of 2018 release ‘Venom’ will be screening at all branches of the Star Cineplex from today.
Directed by Andy Sarkis and scripted by Kelly Marcel, the film is produced by Columbia Pictures in collaboration with Marvel Entertainment and Tencent Pictures.
The sequel was planned during the shooting of Venom (2018). Harrelson was briefly seen as Cletus Cassidy at the end of the ‘Venom’ movie, and a sequel was planned to portray him as a villain.
Official works on the film began in 2019 by confirming the return of its author Marcel as well as actors Hardy and Harrelson. Serkis was appointed as a director in August of that year. The name of the film was announced in April 2020. The film was supposed to be released in October 2020, but was delayed by a year due to the Corona pandemic.
The film was released in the US on October 1. Tom Hardy plays Eddie Brock, a journalist with an alien symbiote residing within him, in ‘Venom: Let There Be Carnage’. They become Venom when they work together. Woody Harrelson reprises his role as serial killer Cletus Kasady from the original ‘Venom’ film. This time, Harrelson’s Kasady morphs into Carnage, a villain recognized in the comics as Venom’s main enemy.
The first Venom grossed $850 million worldwide. ‘Venom 2’, came in $25 million to $30 million ahead of expectations to become the first sequel of the pandemic era to clock in ahead of the first film in a particular series.
The film will be screening in all four branches of Star Cineplex at 12:45pm, 2:50pm, 5:00pm and 7:15pm respectively, reads a press release issued Thursday.
