Popular actress in both the parts of Bengal Jaya Ahsan has received the trophy for the Best Actress Award of the Madrid International Film Festival 2020 in the Foreign Film category.
She got the award for her lead role in the critically acclaimed film, ‘Robibaar’ directed by Atanu Ghosh.
Jaya posted a photograph of the trophy in a Facebook post on Thursday.
“This is the first time someone is awarded from Bangladesh in this festival outside the Indian subcontinent,” she wrote in the caption sharing the photo.
“I feel happy that I have got this award for the film ‘Robibaar’. Finally, I have received the trophy. I am feeling extremely humbled by this honour. … a greater responsibility also comes with it,” the actress added.
She received the Best Actor award in the Foreign Film category from the Madrid International
Film Festival a few months ago but she could not go there in person and the trophy was reached to her on Thursday.
Jaya, in the Facebook post, also expressed gratitude to the whole team of ‘Robibaar’ and its director Atanu Ghosh. “My heartfelt gratitude goes to
director Atanu Ghosh. Endless love for the cast and crew,” she added.
‘Robibaar,’ starring Jaya Ahsan and Prosenjit Chatterjee, is a dramatic story about redefining love.
The plot of ‘Robibaar,’ which takes place in a single day, follows Asimava and Sayoni, played by Prosenjit and Jaya, who had separated 15 years ago and unexpectedly meet paths on a gloomy Sunday. It’s an odd mix of conflict, deception, and disbelief.
It was Jaya’s first award at the Madrid International Film Festival.
Earlier she bagged many awards at home and abroad as an actress. She took home National Film Award for Best Actress four times, the Bacsas (Bangladesh Cholochittra Sangbadik Shomity) Prize for Best Actress twice, the Meril-Prothom Alo Award and the Filmfare Award for Best Actress.
