Music is my medium to express feelings: Sabbir Nasir

Singer Sabbir Nasir has created a buzz with the release of his latest EDM-pop English single ‘Drowning’. The song was featured on prestigious Vents Magazine recently.

“A heartfelt, emotive track which discusses the human race’s evils, the track builds into a dance beat with a moving, funk infused bass line and subtle guitar lines as Sabbir repeats the words ‘I’m Drowning With You’,” the Dominican Republic based magazine wrote about the song.

The song ‘Drowning’ is aimed at both raising awareness and also raising funds for The Outlaw Ocean Project, a project focused on raising awareness of the crimes that occur out in seas which includes human trafficking.

In ‘Drowning’, Sabbir Nasir has collaborated with leading Bangladeshi EDM music composer duo ‘Apeiruss’. Inspired by Ian Urbina’s ‘The Outlaw Ocean’, the song is written by Sheikh Saami Mahmud. Sharear Polock has directed the music video for the song.

In a recent conversation with The Business Post, Sabbir Nasir shared how it all happened. “I have been very vocal about women and children rights since the beginning. When a child in our country Rajon was killed, I put his picture as my Facebook Profile picture. I am always concerned about any abuse against children. There is a famous reporter named Ian Ubrina from the New York Times who has a series named ‘The Outlaw Ocean’ which advocates against the crimes that happen in ocean. When they contacted me about the Ocean, I signed a contract with them about the song. In the song, I have focused the global issues human trafficking and child prostitution.”

“In the song ‘Drowning’, I have tried to bring rebellion against the crimes in the ocean keeping the serenity of ocean in mind. That part was very tricky. When we signed the contract, we thought why not a music video, then the audience can relate to the song more. I shared the idea with Shahrear Polock. He was very thrilled about it. That’s how we made the song,” said Sabbir.

The singer informed that it was his first published English song. “Though I have prepared other English songs, but I haven’t published them yet,” he said further.

Sabbir Nasir made his music comeback in 2018 following a long hiatus for around 20 years. He has been releasing songs one after another since then. Talking about his upcoming works, he said, “Right now, I have a song composed by Lucky Akhand with the lyrics penned by Golam Morshed. It will be released soon. I am doing movie playbacks as well. Another song inspired by an Indian classical song will be recorded soon”.

“I think I have coped up in today’s music pretty well. My songs are being released gradually from various record labels. If you see my own YouTube channel which I have created around ten months ago, has around 53 thousand subscribers. I have been uploading my songs here. It saw a tremendous growth in last six months,” said Sabbir about his return to music.

“The audience belonged to this generation has accepted me. I am trying all other genres. I have tried folk as well, but in a different way. The audiences have accepted it warmly,” he said

“Music is the means to express my feelings. When I feel good, I make music. When I feel sad, I also make music. It makes me feel good, “ thus Sabbir expressed his love for music.

The singer recently hit headlines after he secured the Bronze award for the song ‘Adha’ at Global Music Award 2021 in California.
