Actor Mahmud Sajjad passes away

Veteran cultural personality and actor Mahmud Sajjad has passed away while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Dhaka on Sunday. He was 73.

He breathed his last around 3:30pm at the Evercare Hospital, said his brother and theatre personality M Hamid.

Mahmud Sajjad, who was infected with Covid-19, had been receiving treatment at the intensive care unit of Evercare Hospital since September 1. Afterwards, he tested negative for the virus and released from ICU.

He was again shifted to the ICU of the hospital after his condition deteriorated.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has expressed profound shock at the death of celebrated actor Mahmud Sajjad, also elder brother of State Minister for Cultural Affairs KM Khalid.

In a condolence message, the prime minister said the actor will remain alive in the hearts of people for his contributions.

Sajjad proved his acting prowess on the stage, small screen and also the big screen. He performed in stage plays like ‘Late There Be Light’, ‘Spartacus’, and ‘Janak’.

He made his cinematic debut with Zahir Raihan directed film ‘Songshar’. Later, he appears in ‘Jhorer Pakhi’ directed by Khan Ataur Rahman, ‘Apon Por’ and Aziz Ahzar’s ‘Chokher Jole’.

His first drama serial was ‘Sakal Sondha’ by Begum Mamtaj Hossain which was aired on BTV and gained huge popularity.

He left behind his wife Mamtaz Begum, two sons and a host of relatives to mourn his death.

As the news of his death came out Sunday, many celebrities including actors Zayed Khan, Nirab Hossain, Shanarei Devi Shanu and Sharlin Farzana took to their social media handles to express shock and pay tribute to the veteran actor.
