The Fazlul Haque Memorial Award 2021 will go to national award winning filmmaker Kazi Hayat and celebrated cine journalist Mazharul Islam for their contribution to film direction and cine-journalism.
The award ceremony will take place at Channel i’s studio on October 26.
Both winners will get Tk 25,000 as well as crests and certificates of honour, said a press release.
Celebrated writer Rabeya Khatun initiated the award in memory of her husband Fazlul Haque, the pioneer of film journalism in the country, in 2004. Since then, the award is given every year.
Fazlul Haque was the editor of the first film magazine ‘Cinema’, the director of the first children’s film ‘President’ featured by Faridur Reza Sagar.
The Bangladesh Film Development Corporation has named one of its biggest auditoriums ‘Fazlul Haque Memorial Auditorium’ to pay tribute to Fazlul Haque.
Under the supervision of filmmaker Syed Salauddin Zaki, the ‘Fazlul Haq Institute of Media Studies’ has been established for those interested in working in film and media.
